De-icing an aeroplane’s wings

As winter approaches here in Montréal, one is often reminded of how the city needs to adapt to its particular environment. Planes that leave Montréal’s Trudeau airport often have ice build-up overnight and need to be de-iced before taking off.

Unemployment statistics released today show that Canada has lost jobs in the month of October. However, Québec is an exception to this rule and has seen unemployment fall to 8.5% from 8.8% in September.

The 185th annual St Patrick’s day parade was held in Montréal today. The pavements of Ste-Catherine street were lined with flag waving children and adults in green hats.

South Shore Schools Closing

The Marie-Victorin school board announced last week that it would be shutting several schools in the Vieux-Longueuil & St Hubert areas. Forecasters at the school board have determined that they will have 7700 fewer pupils in 2013 and this will cause a financial deficit if they don’t act.
